Later during Switch's reveal event on January 12th, 2017 the game was unveiled in full as Super Mario Odyssey, developed by Nintendo EPD Tokyo, and marketed as a direct successor to the Super Mario 64 lineage of big open space exploration platforming Mario games, opposed to the more tightly focused and smaller level-based titles of recent years in the Galaxy and Super Mario 3D World style of Mario games.

After losing both Princess Peach and his trademark red cap during an attack by the evil Bowser, Mario teams up with a top hat-shaped creature named Cappy to pursue the wedding-planning villain across the globe and far beyond the boundaries of the Mushroom Kingdom.ġ-UP Studio provided additional development support for the game. Super Mario Odyssey is a 3D platformer developed by Nintendo EPD and published exclusively for Nintendo Switch worldwide on October 27th, 2017.
